“This design is inspired by Thick Skull, and the heavy nature of self-reproach. I thought the idea of hard life lessons almost whacking you over the head — and the tongue-in-cheek defeat of giving into those again and again — was really striking.
The skeletons are nondescript so could be anyone - but much like the two Hayleys in the music video, it is meant to be the same figure twice. It’s a pretty violent image, but I hoped to evoke the immense guilt we can carry for our mistakes, and the cycles of blame we run through.
Paramore have such a penchant for killer closing tracks, and Thick Skull is no exception — there’s both power and grief in it. Every time I hear it, it hits like a ton of bricks.”
